The hidden cove with the seal's cave
Dafnoudi lies at the northern tip of Kefalonia, a few kilometres from Fiskardo, near Antipata in the Erisos region. It is a hidden pebble cove at the foot of a steep ravine, looking out towards Lefkada, and its name recalls the Greek word for laurel, 'dafni', in a diminutive form.
Its most distinctive feature is the cave at one end of the shore, reported as a refuge for the Mediterranean monk seal, Monachus monachus, one of Europe's rarest marine mammals. The path down to the cove runs through a dense cypress forest that casts natural shade and gives Dafnoudi the character of a secluded, untouched corner.
Access is by a paved road to a parking area and then a roughly 500-metre trail through the forest, over stones and roots. It is a natural, unorganized shore with no facilities, so visitors bring whatever they need.
