The captain's sandy shore beside Gouvia marina

Kontokali beach lies at Kontokali, a suburb about 7 km north of Corfu Town, on a headland that separates the gulf from the natural harbour and marina of Gouvia. It is a sandy beach facing northeast.

The village took its name from Christophoros Kontokalis, a sea captain and shipowner who, tradition holds, was granted the estate by the Venetians for his part in the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. Old churches and traces of the Venetian era survive in the area, while the marina of Gouvia, one of the largest in Greece, lies alongside.

It is an organized beach with sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, a bar, a taverna, water sports and a diving centre, and holds a Blue Flag. It is easily reached by car or bus from Corfu.
