The resort beside the Messonghi river
Moraitika beach lies on the southeast coast of Corfu, at the seaside village of the same name, with a shore of sand and pebbles. A small river divides it from neighbouring Messonghi, forming the natural boundary between the two settlements.
Tradition holds that Moraitika was settled in medieval times by refugees who came from the Morea, the Peloponnese, and it is to these Moraites that the village name is attributed. Remains of a Roman villa with baths survive in the area, a sign of very early habitation. The old village stands on a hill behind the modern settlement, with old houses and the small church of Agios Dimitrios.
It is an organized beach of coarse sand and pebbles with shallow waters, sunbeds, tavernas, water sports and parking, awarded a Blue Flag in 2026. Access is by a paved road through the village.
