The smooth rocks at the tip of the peninsula
Kanoni sits on the northern coast of Corfu, at the tip of a green peninsula just north of Kassiopi, between Pipitos and Bataria beaches. It is not a classic sandy strand but a rocky spot where smooth, flat rocks slope down into the Ionian, with a small sandy cove tucked among them. It shares its name with the well-known Kanoni near Corfu Town, yet it is an entirely different place.
The surrounding area, Kassiopi, has a long history. Tradition holds that it was founded in the days of Pyrrhus of Epirus, and it later became a Roman station, while a temple said to be dedicated to Zeus Kassios is recorded here and is thought to have given the town its name. A medieval castle stands above the village. From the rocks of Kanoni the view reaches across to the coast of Albania opposite.
The spot is unorganized, with pebbles and rock instead of sand, but the tavernas and cafes of Kassiopi lie very close by. Access is by a paved road through the village.
