The western cove beneath the limestone cliffs

Porto Vromi is a small cove on the western coast of Zakynthos, in the area of Maries and Anafonitria, tucked between sharp limestone rocks, with pebbles and boulders. It is best known as the closest departure point for boats to Navagio (Shipwreck).

The nearby village of Maries, tradition holds, takes its name from Mary Magdalene and Mary of Clopas, who are said to have put ashore on the western coast of Zakynthos on their way back from Rome. From the cove, tourist boats set out daily for Navagio and the sea caves of the west coast, one of the island's most striking routes.

Seasonal canteens and tavernas operate here, with parking and the boats to Navagio. The spot offers shade and is reached by road from Maries.
