The little harbor below the ancient pitch springs
Keri Beach, also known as Limni Keri, sits at the southwestern corner of Laganas Bay on Zakynthos, where the coastline begins to climb toward the imposing cliffs of the west. It stretches beside a small fishing harbor, with fine sand and pebbles and scattered pines reaching down to the water.
It takes its name from the village of Keri, clinging to the hillside above, and from the area's celebrated pitch springs. As early as the 5th century BC, Herodotus described the pitch wells of Zakynthos, and tradition links the place name to that very natural phenomenon. From the little harbor, boat trips set out to the Keri Caves, the islet of Marathonisi and the Mizithres rocks.
It is lightly organized, with tavernas, cafes and boat rentals in the settlement, parking and shade, and it has been awarded a Blue Flag. Access is by paved road down to Limni Keri.
