Shipwreck Beach

An enclosed cove with sheer white cliffs and bright white sand, where the rusting hull of the ship "Panagiotis" still lies — it ran aground in 1980 (court records say while smuggling cigarettes and evading a pursuit). One of the most photographed beaches in the world.

It is reached only by boat; there is also a dramatic clifftop viewpoint. CAUTION: after landslides (2018, 2022), landing and swimming have at times been banned due to rockfall risk — check the current status before you go.

About this beach

Navagio is exposed in the maistros — often choppy on summer NW/W afternoons. That comes from the measured shape of the coastline around it and our curated wind records — a seasonal picture, not a live forecast, so check live wind and waves before you go.

The bay at Navagio opens to the north-west, so it usually has natural cover from southerly, south-easterly and south-westerly winds.

Navagio has pebbles underfoot with water that deepens close to shore.
