The northern cove, gateway to the Blue Caves

Agios Nikolaos Volimes lies at the northeastern tip of Zakynthos, a small harbour cove below the mountain village of Volimes, with pebbles, coarse sand and a rocky entry to the water. It is the main port of northern Zakynthos and a departure point for excursions along the coast.

Boats set out from the cove to the Blue Caves of Volimes and to Navagio (Shipwreck), while a seasonal ferry links the spot to Kefalonia (Pesada). The name Volima appears in written texts as early as 1515, and the nearby village of Volimes remains known to this day for its handwoven textiles and embroidery. The area has largely kept its traditional character.

It is not organized in the usual sense, but tavernas, excursion boats and parking surround the cove. Access is by a paved road.
