The green islet at the end of the strip

Mourtemeno lies at Sivota in Thesprotia, on the green islet of Megalo Mourtemeno at the end of the sandy strip that begins at Bella Vraka. It is the third largest of the little islands that close off the bay of Sivota, cloaked in dense vegetation right down to the waterline.

The name recalls Mourtos, the title that Sivota carried for a time under Ottoman rule, which lasted until 1959, when the ancient name returned. In the shallows that separate the island from the mainland, when the sea draws back, the natural isthmus is revealed that lets you cross on foot from the Bella Vraka side.

The beach at the foot of the islet is unorganised and has no natural shade. It is reached on foot through the shallows from the Sivota side, while parking and the other amenities lie some distance away, at Sivota.
