The cove with the French name

Gallikos Molos is a narrow sandy beach at Sivota in Thesprotia, a little north of the harbour, with fine sand and some stony patches where you enter the water. Its unusual name conceals a nineteenth-century story.

It is reported that in 1884 a French company of Ottoman lighthouses built a lighthouse on the nearby islet of Mavro Oros, and it is to this French presence that the name "Gallikos Molos" (French Mole) is ascribed. The beach sits at the edge of the bay of Sivota, one of the foremost seaside resorts of Epirus.

It is partly organised, with umbrellas, sunbeds and natural shade, bins and waste baskets, and a restaurant nearby. According to the beach's official profile, access is via the Agia-Plataria road network and then by a paved road.
