The pirates' lair
Kleftiko takes its name from the "kleftes" — the pirates who used it as a base, hiding their ships behind the rocks, out of sight. The sea caves and tunnels offered a perfect hideaway and escape route.
Towering white volcanic masses rise out of the turquoise water, carved by wind and sea into arches and caverns. It is one of the most beautiful seascapes in the Cyclades.
There is no road: you reach it only by boat (or on a demanding hike from western Milos). The crystal-clear water between the rocks is ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
