The hidden cove with ropes
Tsigrado is a small, hidden sandy cove on the south coast, just past Firiplaka, with water that ranges from emerald to deep blue inside white-grey volcanic walls.
Its defining feature is the descent: you slip into a crevice in the rock and climb down using fixed ropes and wooden ladders. It is demanding and slippery — not suitable for small children, anyone with limited mobility, or a fear of heights. Wear closed shoes.
Small and effectively unorganised, it fills up in July and August. But it rewards you with beautiful water and good snorkelling.
