Romeikos Gialos sits inside Myrina, the capital of Lemnos, on the northern side of the rock crowned by the Kastro (castle). That same rock naturally divides the town into two quarters, Romeikos Gialos and Tourkikos Gialos.
The name comes from the Romioi, the Greek inhabitants of Myrina, who settled on this side of the castle. To this day, Romeikos Gialos stands out for the neoclassical mansions built by prosperous Lemnian Egyptiotes, along with the Archaeological Museum and the Metropolis of Lemnos that line its seafront.
The shore is of coarse sand and pebbles, with cafés and tavernas along the waterfront and seasonal organization of umbrellas and sunbeds. Access is direct, within the town.
