The little cove of Polis bay

Mikri Poli is a small cove in Polis bay, below the village of Stavros in northern Ithaca. It sits just west of the main Polis beach, with pebbles and rocks and deep water.

Polis bay takes its name from the ancient town that, by tradition, lies sunken beneath its waters. On the bay's northwestern side opens the Cave of Loizos, an important site of ancient worship where Mycenaean and Geometric finds came to light, along with the well-known mask fragment inscribed to Odysseus. Mikri Poli shares this historic setting as the smaller, wilder neighbour of the main beach.

It is unorganized, with a rocky, pebbled shore and few facilities, though there is parking nearby. Access is by a local road from the Stavros area.
