The pebble cove at the edge of Aigosthena bay
Prosili lies at the northern end of Aigosthena bay, near Porto Germeno in West Attica. It is a small beach of pebbles with rocky edges, facing southwest, at the point where the area's coastal road comes to an end. Although only about 65 kilometres from Athens, it is often described in the press as one of the lesser-known corners of Attica, with a landscape reminiscent of an island.
The bay it opens onto carries deep history: at its southern side stands the ancient fortress of Aigosthena, built in the second half of the 4th century BC and considered among the best-preserved fortifications of antiquity, with towers among the tallest to survive. Around the shore of Prosili, natural greenery alternates with a scattering of houses.
The beach is free and unorganized, with pebbles and rocks at its edges. There are restaurants in the wider area, and access is by a paved road.
