A pebbly coast below an ancient fortress

On the northeast Corinthian Gulf, at ancient Aigosthena at the foot of Mt Kithaeron (~65 km from Athens). The coast is mostly pebbly (fine and coarse), with pines, olives and tamarisks; three main beaches, largely free, with fish tavernas along the road.

Above it stands the Fortress of Aigosthena (4th-3rd c. BC), among the best-preserved ancient fortifications in Greece. Famous for its sunsets.
