The remote cove with the country chapel

Agios Fokas lies on western Skyros, south of Atsitsa, in a small cove that faces south. It takes its name from the picturesque country chapel of Agios Fokas standing on a low rise at one end of the beach, overlooking the bay.

It is one of the island's most remote beaches, quite a few kilometres from Chora, and the route here passes through the pine-clad landscape of western Skyros, either from Atsitsa heading south or from Pefkos heading west. The combination of the white chapel, the pines and the open view over the Aegean gives the cove a spare, authentically Skyrian character.

The beach is not organized, with fine and coarse sand and shallow water. A seasonal canteen operates in the summer months, and a taverna and cafe can be found nearby. Access is via a passable dirt road, with parking close to the shore, and the pines offer patches of natural shade.
