The Red Beach beneath volcanic cliffs

A small cove framed by towering rust-red walls: iron-rich volcanic rock that has oxidised to a deep brick-red, rising over dark pebbles and turquoise water. It is one of Santorini’s most photographed spots, right beside the prehistoric site of Akrotiri.

Access is by a short but steep, rocky path. Take care: the cliffs are unstable and rockfalls have occurred — keep away from the base of the walls.
