Black sand below Mesa Vouno

A long beach of jet-black volcanic sand at the southern foot of the rocky Mesa Vouno headland. Crowning the mountain are the ruins of Ancient Thera, a Dorian city founded around the 9th century BC.

It is fully organised and lively, with bars, tavernas and watersports, and has a reputation as a more budget-friendly, younger destination than the caldera side.
