Santorini’s lunar coastline

A long strip of dark volcanic sand beneath tall pale cliffs of ash, tuff and pumice — debris from the Minoan eruption (~3,600 years ago) that wind and rain have sculpted into smooth, wave-like "lunar" forms. Hence its nickname, "Moon Beach".

It is the most road-accessible and organised of the southern beaches, with a marina right next door, yet it stays comparatively quiet.
