The long sandy sweep below the castle

Valtos beach lies just west of Parga, on the mainland coast of the Preveza region, and is reckoned the largest beach in the area, its shoreline approaching three kilometres. It stretches at the foot of the hill crowned by the Venetian Castle of Parga.

The castle took its form under the Venetians in the 16th century and was later added to by Ali Pasha, looming over the bay and the long sand from above. The name Valtos itself alludes to the low, marshy ground behind the shore. From one end of the beach a path climbs toward the old town and the castle.

Valtos is an organized beach, with beach bars, sunbeds and umbrellas, tavernas and water sports. Access is by a made-up road from Parga, while many arrive by the small boats from the harbour.
