The sandy strip between sea and lagoons

Arogi stretches along the Thracian coast of Rodopi, about 33 kilometres southwest of Komotini, as the natural continuation of the long sandy beach of Fanari. Its fine sand runs for kilometres, forming one of the most extensive sandy shorelines in Thrace. The settlement of the same name was recognised in 1924 and settled by refugees who traced their roots to Sinapli in Eastern Rumelia.

The character of the place is defined by the water that surrounds it: the beach sits on a narrow strip of land between the sea and the lagoons of Xirolimni and Karatza, at the western edge of the Vistonida gulf. These wetlands, part of the National Park of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and the Natura 2000 network, host a wealth of birdlife, and the scenery alternates between dunes, reed beds and open horizon. The beach is reported to have received Blue Flag awards over the years.

Arogi is listed in the official seatrac.gr directory, with a Seatrac device providing autonomous sea access for people with mobility difficulties. The same directory notes parking, an access walkway, a shower and changing facilities along the waterfront.
