Olive trees that touch the pebbled shore
Marmari sits on the northeastern coast of Paxos, about six kilometres from Gaios and very close to Loggos, next to the cove of Levrechio. It is a small bay of white pebbles, and its name echoes the Greek word for marble ('marmaro'), a nod to the whiteness of its stone.
Its most distinctive feature is the olive trees and cypresses that come down to the water and cast shade over much of the shore. Above the beach, on hillside terraces, spreads an olive grove, a typical element of the Paxos landscape with its centuries-old olive groves, many of them planted during Venetian rule.
It stays unorganized, with no facilities, its natural tree shade being its defining trait. It lies close to Loggos and to neighbouring Levrechio, from where the shore is reached.
