Episkopi: the sands below the ancient city
Episkopi stretches along the northwest coast of Kythnos, barely two kilometres from the port of Merichas. It is a wide, long beach of fine and coarse sand with shallow water.
Above the bay rises the archaeological site of Vryokastro, the location of the ancient city of Kythnos, systematically excavated over recent decades. Near the shore stands the little chapel of Agios Vlasios, while large tamarisk trees scattered across the sand give natural shade.
The beach is organised, with umbrellas and sunbeds that operate seasonally, plus cafes and tavernas nearby. The road that reaches it is paved and there is parking a short distance away.
