Apokrousi: the long sands beside Kolona

Apokrousi lies on the northwest coast of Kythnos, north of the port of Merichas. It is a long stretch of fine and coarse sand, with scattered trees that cast shade here and there.

A little further on opens Kolona, perhaps the island's most celebrated beach: a ribbon of sand roughly two hundred and forty metres long that joins Kythnos to the rocky islet of Agios Loukas, with sea on either side. Apokrousi is regarded by locals as its natural neighbour.

The beach is organised, with a beach bar, umbrellas and sunbeds that operate seasonally, as well as cafes and tavernas nearby. Access is by a made-up road and there is parking a short distance away.
