The old public beach of the eastern city

Perigiali is the beach of the neighbourhood of the same name at the eastern entrance of Kavala, about two kilometres from the city centre. It is where eastern Kavala meets the sea, with the shore stretching out in front of the district.

Older Kavaliots knew the area as Kara Orman, and its shore served for decades as the popular public beach of the eastern city: residents of the surrounding districts, such as Agios Athanasios and Agia Varvara, swam here, with the buses filling up on Sundays and small kafeneia serving the bathers. Over the years the working-class district grew, and in our days the waterfront is changing face once again, as former military and industrial land gives way to new housing.

The shore is reported to be sandy, in direct contact with the urban fabric, and it is included in the Seatrac directory among beaches with sea-access infrastructure for people with disabilities.
