The bandit's rock on the Libyan Sea

Listis lies on the south coast of the Heraklion prefecture, in the Viannos area near Keratokambos, facing the Libyan Sea. It takes its name from the imposing rock of Listis (the bandit) that dominates the shore: tradition holds that a bandit once lived in the caves formed inside it.

The road linking Kastri with Tsoutsouras passes just above, and the landscape keeps something of south Crete's wildness, with large rocks in and out of the water, low hills and sparse vegetation. A small ancient sanctuary is said to have stood on the hilltop, while a spring rises at the nearby site of Xirokambi.

It remains a completely natural, unorganized beach of coarse sand and pebbles, with no facilities. Access is via a short passable dirt road that reaches almost to the cove.
