Kalotaritissa: the bay at the island's edge
Kalotaritissa lies at the south-western tip of Amorgos, beyond the village of Kolofana, in a natural bay with a sandy shore.
Its name is said to derive from 'kalotaria', meaning fine, summery weather. Traditional fishing boats moor in the bay, while just across the water rises the islet of Nikouria, uninhabited to this day, which was once used as a leper colony.
Access is by paved road, about 35 minutes from Chora. The beach is organized, with seasonal sunbeds and umbrellas and a beach café. The ground is fine and coarse sand, and the water is shallow.
