Agia Anna: beneath Hozoviotissa
Agia Anna lies on the eastern side of Amorgos, a small rocky, pebbled cove right below the monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa.
The beach became famous as one of the key settings of Luc Besson's 1988 film The Big Blue (Le Grand Bleu), with the little chapel of Agia Anna perched on the rocks etched into viewers' memories. Higher up stands Panagia Hozoviotissa, an 11th-century monastery carved into a sheer cliff about 300 metres above the sea.
Access is by paved road or the local bus, followed by a short descent to the shore. The ground is pebbles and rock, the water is deep and there is no shade. A seasonal canteen operates nearby and there is parking.
