The big sandy cove with Bekiris Cave
Agioi Anargyroi lies on the southwest coast of Spetses, about 10 kilometres from Dapia, and is one of the island's largest beaches. The cove takes its name from the chapel of the Agioi Anargyroi, the healer saints who practised medicine without payment, which stands beside the sand. Pine-covered slopes run down to the sea, framing the beach in a wide embrace that opens to the southwest.
At the edge of the cove, a cliff path and steps lead to Bekiris Cave, the best-known natural landmark of Spetses, with stalactites and a sandy floor inside. Tradition holds that in 1770 islanders hid here during a raid, and it is said that a man named Bekiris betrayed the secret, giving the cave its name. Another version has Bekiris as a hermit who lived in the cave and was fed by a seal. It is also said to have served as a munitions store during the 1821 Revolution, and it became known as the Fairy's Cave (Spilia tis Neraidas) after the film Jenny Jenny was shot here in the 1960s.
The beach is organized, with sand and deep water, and tavernas and cafes operate around it. Access is by bicycle, motorbike or seasonal bus from town, as well as by boat or seasonal tourist craft in the summer months.
