The seaside village of Dorida with island airs

Skaloma is a small seaside settlement of Dorida, on the north shore of the Corinthian Gulf, about 17 kilometres east of Nafpaktos, beside the Antirrio-Itea road. After the Greek War of Independence the settlement was officially recorded as Kato Marathias, and in 1992 it took the name Skaloma, by which it is known to this day.

The small cove with its flagstone seafront gives the village an atmosphere reminiscent of an island, with views across the Corinthian Gulf and toward the mountains of Dorida. At the eastern entrance to the settlement stands Panagitsa, a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary set among plane trees and eucalyptus, while tall trees reach down to one end of the beach. A section of the shore has been awarded a Blue Flag.

The beach is pebbly and unorganized, with natural shade from the trees. Tavernas and cafes operate right beside the shore, access is by a paved road with parking close by, and the water becomes quite deep.
