The narrow cove at the foot of Mount Helikon

Paralia Saranti lies on the southern coast of Viotia, in a narrow cove of the Corinthian Gulf about 50 kilometres from Thebes. The small seaside settlement, also known as Saranti, spreads along the rim of the cove in front of a shore of white pebbles, and belongs administratively to the municipality of Thebes. It is said that the first inhabitants of Saranti were Greek refugees from Asia Minor.

The landscape here is defined by Mount Helikon, the mountain of the Muses in antiquity, which descends towards the Corinthian Gulf and gives the shore a dramatic relief, with wooded slopes reaching almost to the sea. The settlement keeps the character of a small fishing village: large tamarisk trees are reported along the shore, together with old fishermen's houses and a small refuge for boats, while fish tavernas serve right by the water.

The beach is unorganized, with coarse sand and pebbles along the shore. A paved road reaches close to the sea, parking is available nearby, and a canteen, cafes and tavernas operate a short distance away.
