The twin coves of white pebbles below Katomeri
Limonari lies on the southeastern coast of Meganisi, a few kilometres below Katomeri, the island's seat. It is in fact two neighbouring coves, Megalo and Mikro Limonari, with white pebbles so fine they recall sand, framed by rocky ledges that run down to the water.
Meganisi is a small, green Ionian island facing the southeastern tip of Lefkada, long known as 'the island of sailors' for its deep maritime tradition. On its southwestern coast opens the Papanikolis sea cave, one of the largest in Greece, which tradition holds served as a hideout for the submarine of the same name during the war years. Katomeri, the village just above, keeps its stone houses and narrow lanes, and Limonari is one of its nearest beaches.
The beach is organized, with a seasonal kiosk for drinks and light snacks and parking nearby, though without natural shade. Access is by a passable dirt road, signposted from the road out of Katomeri, while a footpath drops down towards Mikro Limonari. Because the shore is made of pebbles and rock, water shoes are said to help.
